My Booming Relationship with Hormone Replacement Therapy

Injection day

When I was young my father was in the Navy. When was transferred to Scotland, I had to get a bunch of shots. I remember my mom’s embarrassment when she and the doctor had to chase me around the room trying to pin me down. I went under the table and all around the room. Eventually they were able to jab me.

So the fact that today I self-inject alone is interesting. The fact that I look forward to my weekly injections is telling.

It’s the day I jab a needle into my rear end. I’m not exactly good at injecting per se, but I’m undaunted. I stick the needle in a vial, I draw out the magic elixir, then swipe alcohol over my butt cheek, alternating sides each week. It stings a little sometimes but that sting is wonderful.

I remember chatting in a trans chat room once as my friend Breanna said “You gotta get the needle, it will give you BOOM!”

I wanted BOOM so badly. I had been on pills for about 6 months, and I wasn’t getting the results I had hoped for. So, on my next appointment with Planned Parenthood I asked for the needle. A Nurse Practitioner rebuffed me with some nonsense about erratic supply or something.

That was my last visit, and they got a 3 star review. I found my current gender clinic online and the NP there was more than willing to give me the needle. I got BOOM! Changes happened faster. Boobs grew faster. Thank you, Breanna, for your advice, which might have been more important than I realized. I learned later that the risks for older girls who take pills are real. Blood clots and such.

I must go now, for the time is nigh for my weekly shot of BOOM.
