On Repeat

A Poem

Every day is just life on repeat
an endless loop of personal ephemera
floating through the air
and dissolving into the ether
until it becomes tomorrow

No matter how hard I try
to make this particular day
different than that other day
they all blend together
into an endless stream
of turning calendar pages
and general ennui

I lack enthusiasm on repeat
because every time I allow it to rise
it just falls back inside itself
and goes back to sleep
leaving me alone in a chair,
staring at the wall on repeat

Even this feeling is on repeat
an endless scroll of to-do lists
that get copied onto new lists
because who I am kidding,
none of this actually has to get done

Apathy on repeat
depression on threepeat
as I pull the covers over my head
and wait for tomorrow
