To Live rather than to Logic

You choose your emotions. They are not chained helplessly to your circumstances, or to the people around you, or to the weather. You choose them, just like you choose what you will eat, what you will wear, and what you will think about.

I recently watched a youtube video of the sage guru Mooji. And this article is reminding me so deeply of something he said.

First, he put his hand on his forehead and said “and said you may know it here” then he moved his hand to his heart and said “but you are not living it here.”

I have often found myself trapped in the logic loop. My head “gets” that I choose my emotions, but my heart seems to often have a very different idea of what it means.

When emotions boil up in the moment, especially when someone else is involved, it can be so easy to be swept away by the emotion. To BE the emotion, embody it rather than notice it and question it.

We are a reactive bunch us human beings. It’s natural.

I’m finding for myself personally, my first line of defense when I feel the emotions taking hold is to take a deep breath. The split second of noticing my breath can be enough to stop the emotion from fully taking over. Sometimes that moment is all I need to avoid going down the rabbit hole and being swept away by my anger or fear.

This line sounds so simple. And it is. What it isn’t, is easy.

As Mooji helped me see, logically, I get it. Emotionally, I’m not quite living it, yet.

Regardless, I appreciate the reminder.
