Successful Workers Today Require Lifelong Learning

This article discusses what lifelong learning is, why lifelong learning is essential, and how to obtain it.

1.Complete a college degree slowly when they do not have the time or money to complete full time college credit loads.

2.Broaden continually the base of their career knowledge as required by licensing agencies in fields such as teaching.

3.Keep up with new developments in their career fields.

4.Compete more successfully for promotions.

5.Make transitions to other careers if they no longer can make a living in their current career fields.

6.Achieve personal life goals not related to their careers. As Proverbs 18:15 reads, “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

Lifelong learning can take place formally in adult education college credit classes, including online colleges.

Lifelong learning also can take place during on-the-job training, in non-credit classes, and during self-directed learning activities. Examples of such self-directed learning activities are those activities that take place in the library, on the internet, and during informal interactions in hobby clubs.

Often, such self-directed learning activities and on-the-job training activities can be converted to college credit by college evaluations and by tests such as the College Level Examination Program.

Although lifelong learning is critical, not all educational institutions are legitimate. In fact, some educational institutions are scams. Lifelong learners must thoroughly investigate the educational institutions they are considering, or they will risk wasting their time and money. Their lost time never can be reclaimed and being deeply in debt can hurt their credit ratings, that also hurts their chances of success as job applicants.

1.Understand their abilities, interests, values, and personalities

2.Research the job market to determine which jobs are most compatible to their abilities, interests, values, and personalities.

3.Effectively apply for those jobs that are the best fit for them.

As Plutarch once said, “The correct analogy for the mind is not a vessel that needs filling, but wood that needs igniting.”
