It is crucial to ensure that any action taken to address climate change which is a transboundary crisis, is inclusive and equitable, benefiting all communities, particularly those in the Global South who are most vulnerable to its effects. Building on my personal background and experience, I would like to focus on strengthening the effectiveness of global cooperation efforts by utilizing institutional measures such as policy and transformative tools for global support. This should prioritize providing the necessary infrastructure and capacity to minimize the impact of climate change with perspectives of global justice and pan-humanitarianism in mind. And also take consider that development is a multidimensional process of expanding people’s capabilities or their ability to live the lives they value, which goes beyond economic growth.

Here are three big ideas that could help achieve this goal:

In retrospect of my experience, I think external actors, such as bi or multilateral agencies and organizations, should prioritize a role only in facilitating and supporting local or regional initiatives. It’s important for these external actors to avoid falling into the trap of delusion as a saver or paternalistic intervention and instead prioritize facilitation and support. This means recognizing the agency and expertise of local communities and stakeholders and empowering them to take ownership of solutions that work for them. External actors can facilitate this process by providing resources, expertise, and technical support, while also prioritizing participatory and inclusive approaches that involve community members in decision-making processes. By supporting community-led approaches, we can build local capacity and empower communities to take ownership of solutions that work for them.

Furthermore, strengthening data collection and analysis is crucial for enabling data access and effective decision-making, and it’s important to involve the local community in this process. Governments and international organizations should invest in improving data collection and analysis in developing countries, particularly on climate-related issues. This can help ensure that programs are tailored to address specific needs and that resources are utilized effectively. Additionally, engaging the local community in this process can help to ensure that their perspectives and needs are taken into account. Through community engagement, we can build trust and establish effective communication channels, which are critical for achieving equitable and sustainable outcomes.

Increasing funding for climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries is a critical step towards achieving the goals of the global climate society. Developed countries should accelerate their efforts to allocate more funding towards these initiatives, utilizing pre-existing mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Adaptation Fund (AF), as well as newly established initiatives like the Loss and Damage Fund. And definitely, it is important to monitor the implementation process of L&D, as there have been concerns over the slow progress.
